3 Card Brag is a traditional British card game that has been played since the 16th Century and is considered one of the ancestors of Poker! This game is also very similar to the popular Indian game Teen Patti.
Live 3 Card Brag online is a live dealer game from Playtech and that we can only find in live casinos that are powered by Playtech.
Even if you are familiar with other poker variations or card games like blackjack will help you understand three-card poker easier.
What is Live 3 Card Brag
Three card brag is a casino game that is played with a standard 52 deck card pack with the cards ranking in a similar way as in most card games.
Ace is the highest value and 2 is the lowest value card.
In the traditional form of the game, there are a few players playing against each other (the same way it happens to poker games) but the live version is the player vs the live dealer.
In order for the players to beat the live dealer they need to have a better hand from a high card like an Ace (A) to a Pair, Flush Run, Running Flush and Prial (3 of a Kind)

How to play Live 3 Card Brag Online
Playing 3 card brag with live dealers is fairly simple and if you know how to play 3 card poker then it is actually the same gameplay process.
- You place your bets on the Ante ( the equivalent of blind) and/or Pair Plus side bet.
- After the bets have been confirmed both you and the live dealer get three cards.
- At this point, you can’t see the live dealers cards obviously as these are facing down. Your cards face up.
- Now, you can decide if you want to Fold or Play their Ante bet. If you decide to play the roundthen betting continues and an additional bet which is equal to the Ante bet is been placed.
- It’s showdown time! The live dealers’ cards are now turned face up and you get to see if your cards are better than the dealers cards.
Note that the dealer needs a Queen or better to qualify. If the dealer doesn’t qualify the rules to state that the Ante pays double the bet (even money) and the Play bet is a push.
Below you can see the Ante Bonus payouts/odds
Ante Bonus Payout
|Prial||5 to 1|
|Running Flush||4 to 1|
|Run||1 to 1|
The Pair Plus side bet also known as Pair Bonus and is a separate bet from the Ante so even if you have lost the Ante you can still win the side bet. If you choose to Fold you lose the Pair Plus bet, even if your hand qualified.

If you are familiar with 3 card poker then the game is similar but the terminology that is used is slightly different as you can see below.
|3 Card Brag||Three Card Poker|
|Prial||Three of a kind|
|Running Flush||Straight flush|
Also in 3 card brag, a Prial beats a Running Flush.
Basic Information about Three Card Brag
Let’s have a look at some basic information and rules of the game. These rules are the same whethere you play online or at aland based casino.
52 cards without jokers are used for three card brag. The card values are the same as any other major card game and rank in the usual order from high to low: A-K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2. There is no standard number of players that can take a seat on a 3 card brag table but it is best for about 4 to 8 people.
Like any other gambling, game players have to agree on the stake and have a common understanding of the rules. The usual agreements that take place on a 3 card brag game offline are:
- the ante bet aka initial stake. This is the amount that all players must put into the pot before each deal;
- the minimum and maximum initial bet
- If there is a limit on the amount by which the bet can be increased by each subsequent player;
- any change or modification to the basic rules, like the use of wild cards.
Another thing that three card brag players should know is that contrary to Poker, the ‘run’ and ‘flush’ in Brag rank in the opposite order to Poker.
So if you are a poker player or even a blackjack player you will find 3 card brag interesting as it has all the classic card game features. Betting, cards, blinds, hands, odds and many more!
A-2-3 is the highest run or running flush, A-K-Q of a suit is the second highest, then K-Q-J, and so on.
Yes, 3 Card Brag and 3 Card Poker are exactly the same game just with a different name.
