Live Dealer Blackjack Versions
There are 2 different types of live blackjack tables that you can find online.
- 7 Seater Blackjack Tables
- Unlimited Blackjack Tables
7 Seart Blackjack Tables
These are the more traditional version of the blackjack table and the one that we all know from our visits to land-based casinos. Just like in a brick and mortar casino there are 7 available seats on the table and you play with the other players that are sat on the same table.
These live blackjack tables get very busy and get full especially during peak hours. However, there is a significant additional feature in the last few years that solved the problem of limited seats!
The Bet Behind feature allows you to back up a player that is already sat on that table by placing a bet on the player’s hand. The seated player will play the hand and if he wins you win if he loses you lose! You take no part in the decision making so it is a risky bet.
Live Unlimited Blackjack – Infinite Blackjack
Different software providers have different names for their Unlimited Blackjack tables. For example, Playtech is calling this table Unlimited Blackjack or All Bets Blackjack, while Evolution is calling it Infinite Blackjack and Pragmatic Play One Blackjack.
Everyone gets the same cards and are able to make their own choices on the game: hit, stand, split, double or even take insurance or not.
While this version is essentially the same as 7 seat Blackjack there are a couple of minor differences. For example, when there is a split you get the option to double the bet and split the hands or fold the hand and get a portion of your initial stake back. In unlimited blackjack, the dealer also doesn’t check for Blackjack.
Live Dealer Blackjack Games and Variations
Today you can find a huge number of live dealer blackjack tables online. A lot are standard blackjack tables with a different layout or table theme. However, in the last few years, there has been a boom of new live blackjack games that are innovative and are slightly different o your traditional Blackjack.
Some of the features these new live dealer blackjack tables have are multipliers on cards, free bets on specific hands and a lot of side bets. Blackjack games like Free Bet Blackjack, Quantum Blackjack, All Bets Blackjack are just a few examples of these types of games.
You can read about all these new tables in our article about live blackjack games!
Live Dealer Blackjack Features
Online casinos have a big number of blackjack tables with live dealers and some of these tables have different features, rules or side bets. Below are the main ones :
- 10 card charlie: players win if they draw 10 cards unless the dealer has a Blackjack.
- double any 2: players can double down on any first 2 card combination
- hit split Aces: players can hit/draw cards to their split aces, rather than receiving only 1 card.
- re-split: players can split a hand that they have already split.
- surrender: players can fold their hands before taking any action and forfeit half of the original bet (see more details below).
- side bets: in addition to standard blackjack bets, optional side bets are offered like Pairs and 21+3.
- bet behind: you are able to bet behind another player that has already a seat on a blackjack table.
Tip: Look on the table for the phrase “Blackjack pays 3 to 2″ to make sure you are playing classic blackjack.
Live Dealer Blackjack Side Bets
Today you can find blackjack side bets in every live dealer blackjack table. A lot of blackjack players like to place a side bet as the payouts are good and it also adds a bit more excitement to the game.
Some tables like All Bets Blakcjack for example have been created with side bets in mind. The most common side bets that you will find in almost every blackjack table are Perfect Pairs and 21+3. These two blackjack side bets are perfect for casino players that want to add some extra action to their gameplay. Perfect Pairs and 21+ are quite straightforward bets.
With perfect pairs also known as PP, the player wins if the first two cards that are dealt to him are a pair. Perfect Pair pays 30 to 1 ( i.e both clubs), Coloured Pair pays 10 to 1 – Mixed Pair pays 5 to 1
The 21+ side bet is also based on the players first two cards and the dealer’s face card. If the combination of these cards is a straight, a flush, a straight flush, or a three of a kind, then the player wins. All wins pay 9 to 1.
Live Dealer Blackjack Table Limits
Most UK live dealer casinos have blackjack tables with limits from £1 to £10,000. This depends on the type of blackjack table. Unlimited Blackjack tables have lower limits while the classic 7 seat tables have much higher limits.
Online Casinos have plenty of low stakes live blackjack tables but also some high stakes blackjack tables.
For example, there are some VIP blackjack tables that have higher minimum and maximum bets and are ideal for casino high rollers. Soiree Blackjack is one of the most popular VIP Blackjack tables.
Check out the best live casinos for High Rollers if you are looking for high stakes blackjack!
On the other hand, Blackjack Party for example is a live dealer blackjack table with a minimum bet of £0.50 when you Bet Behind. This table can be found in UK casinos that are powered by Evolution like Genting and William Hill Casino.
It is always advisable to play with limits that suit your bankroll. So if your bankroll is £50, then it makes more sense to play on a blackjack table that minimum bet is £1-£2 rather than a £10 minimum bet table. That way you can play more hands and enjoy the game for longer.
But this always depends on the players personal style and it is up to the individual to decide if they want to play with high risk or low risk.
The Live Blackjack Lobby
Every online casino has a live casino lobby where players can find all the available tables for all the casino games.
There, players can choose their live dealer blackjack table depending on their preferences of minimum/maximum stakes, the type of blackjack game and their preferred live dealer.
The layout of the live casino lobby depends on the live casino provider that the casino is using to offer these games. The majority of UK casinos have live dealer blackjack games from Playtech or Evolution.
This is why we find similar live blackjack lobby layouts in different online casinos. Below you can also see an example from an Evolution live blackjack lobby
Regardless of where you choose to play blackjack, all live blackjack lobby’s have similar layouts. You can see the table limits, if the table is full if you can bet behind and even have a preview of the table.
Most online casinos have a number of different live blackjack dealers, male or female and a number of different tables and limits that you can play at.
Basic Blackjack Betting Tips and Strategies
Blackjack is a casino game in that strategy can play a significant role in reducing the house edge if applied properly. A lot of blackjack players play with a specific strategy, following a specific pattern of when to hit, stand, split or double while others are just following some basic blackjack tips.
Like every other casino game there is no magic formula for winning but there are ways to increase our chances.
A very common strategy that is harder to apply in our days especially online, is card counting. If you haven’t heard about card counting then you can check what the MIT team did in the past to get a good understanding of that powerful blackjack strategy.
Very briefly, players can count card values and bet more when they have an advantage over the house.
Sounds awesome right?
Well, that’s what you could do in the past but not so easy anymore, especially when we are talking about counting cards in live blackjack.
This blackjack strategy is harder to apply in our days because most casinos and especially online casinos are changing the card decks very often. This leaves blackjack players with a very short window of time to apply the strategy.
However, it is not all bad news because as we mentioned already there are ways where players can reduce the house edge to the minimum and achieve long term success if they are disciplined 🙂
How to Play Live Blackjack: Basic Rules
Ok if you have played blackjack at least once in your life you probably know all these basic rules, but we thought we can add them here as a reminder for the newcomers.
- The goal of blackjack is to beat the dealer’s hand without going over 21
- Each player starts with two cards while one of the dealer’s cards is hidden until the end
- When a player chooses to ‘Hit’ he is asking for another card. When a player chooses to ‘Stand’ he is holding the total of the cards he has
- If you go over 21 you bust, and the dealer wins regardless of the dealer’s hand
- If you are dealt 21 from the first two cards you get dealt (Ace & 10), you got a blackjack which means you win 1.5 the amount of your bet * this depends on the blackjack table)
- The dealer will hit until his/her cards total 17 or higher
- Players will also get an option to double sometimes which is like a hit, only the bet is doubled and you only get one more card
- Players can also get the option to split sometimes when they have two of the same card – the pair is split into two hands. Splitting also doubles the bet, because each new hand is worth the original bet.
Value of the Cards
In live blackjack, the cards are valued the same way as normal blackjack as follows:
- An Ace can count as either 1 or 11, as explained below.
- The cards from 2 through 9 are valued at their face value.
- The 10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10
If you are not already familiar with the card values or other basic rules of blackjack but you are still not very familiar with the game then you can check our Blackjack Rules Guide.
Is Live Dealer Blackjack Rigged?
There is a simple answer to this question. No, live dealer blackjack is not rigged and the same applies to every live casino game. Even if you are suspicious that the software-based blackjack version that is using a Random Number Generator for the cards might be rigged, you can’t have any doubts when you play with live dealers. Why? Because the game unfolds live in front of you, with a real human dealing the cards to you and the other players.
